A Brief Intro

Umbilical cord blood banking is the process of collecting and storing the blood from the umbilical cord and placenta after the birth of a baby. This process does not affect the baby or the mother.

Cord blood is rich in stem cells that have been used to treat over 80 diseases, including leukemia, sickle cell anemia, and cerebral palsy.

Banking your baby’s cord blood gives your child access to his or her own renewable stem cells if they are ever needed for medical treatment in the future.

Some parents think of it as “a baby insurance policy” that they hope will never have to be used.
